COVID Vaccination
Spain is currently requiring either Full COVID Vaccination or COVID Recovery Certificate before boarding any flight or other method of transportation into the country. Here is a link to the sanitary authorities website in Spain:
Gobierno de España - Spain Travel Health
As these may change, please check the website as your travel date gets closer.
In order to keep everybody safe and reduce risk and in addition to country requirements, we would appreciate for you and your party to be up to date with boosters if eligible.
Security and Thefts: Pickpockets
In Barcelona, as in almost all big cities, there are robberies, the most common are pickpockets, that is to say, robberies that you hardly notice. So, be very careful with your wallets, purses, watches and cell phones, always carry them well controlled, never carry backpacks on your back, especially on the Rambla or in the metro. We do not advise you to wear watches of great value in the area of the Rambla.
The central neighborhoods where you have to be more careful are the Raval, the Gothic and the Born. If you are robbed, call 112.
💉 If you are traveling from outside the European Union to get to Spain, you will need to fill a Travel Health Certificate "FCS" form (and QR Code) to show at the airport. Follow this link Gobierno de España - Spain Travel Health (some airlines want you to have the app)
Also check the Technology tips at the end of the page for info on cellphone service, group text for the party and power and plug adapters.

Technology Tips
Powering your devices
Spaniard outlets provide power at 220V and 50 Hz. Most modern devices are rated for automatic switching between 100 to 240V AC and 50 to 60 Hz. In other words, they will automatically detect and adjust. Check by looking at the input rating of your device:
Outlet Adapters
You will need an adapter to be able to physically plug your devices in:
We recommend this one: Power Plug Adapter - 4 USB Ports Wall Charger - Fast Charging Adapter for 150 Countries.
At minimum get this one: European Travel Plug Adapter
Wanna be bored with details... go here.

To have a common and quick channel to communicate when we are in Spain, we will add you to a WhatsApp Group (using the phone number you provided). This functions equally to a group text, but is more reliable.

What to See in Barcelona's Neighborhoods and Districts
Barcelona's Districts:
The district of the Ciutat Vella or Old City: Its 4 neighborhoods is how the oldest part of Barcelona is known. Hotel 1898 is located in Ciutat Vella in the Gothic Quarter. It was the walled part of the city and the genesis of the city we know today. It is made up of four inescapable neighborhoods and some of the busiest streets and squares in Barcelona.
The Gothic Quarter: The Gothic Quarter is the great jewel of the city of Barcelona. It is a joy to stroll through its narrow medieval streets, get lost among its small squares, admire its churches and palaces, discover the remains of its Roman origin... During your journey you will find impressive monuments and corners such as the Cathedral of Barcelona, the Carrer del Bisbe and its bridge, the Plaza Sant Jaume with the Generalitat and the City Hall, the beautiful Plaza Real, the Plaza del Rey or the Jewish Quarter (the Call)... You can visit the Museum of History of Barcelona (MUHBA) with a site in the basement.
Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera (el Born): The second neighborhood of the Ciutat Vella is the sum of 3 sub neighborhoods, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and la Ribera. Inside there is an area called the Born, which has managed to overshadow the whole neighborhood and the whole area is known by its name. So for short and although it is not entirely correct, we will use the name Born to refer to this second neighborhood. Recently rehabilitated, it is full of alternative stores and restaurants of all kinds. But it also hides great jewels such as the Cathedral of the Sea Church, the Arc de Triomf or the Palau de Música de Lluís Domènech i Montaner. And of course a great cultural offer: the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), the Chocolate Museum ... And the great Picasso Museum. When the forces falter do not miss the precise Park of the Citadel.
The Raval: The third of the neighborhoods of the Ciutat Vella of Barcelona is the Raval. It is the most multicultural neighborhood of the city and the last of the area that is being rehabilitated. The old and sordid port district has given way to independent designers, second-hand stores and art galleries that have settled in its streets. Here we find one of the most visited museums in the city, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA). And also the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) and the Maritime Museum of Barcelona.
La Barceloneta: The neighborhood of La Barceloneta is the fourth of the neighborhoods that make up the Ciutat Vella of Barcelona. The old sailors' quarter, with its narrow streets, is a good place to eat seafood or a good paella. It is one of the most atmospheric areas of the city, thanks to its great beaches. Here you can also take the cable car that will take you to the Montjuic area, with magnificent views.
Highlights:
Las Ramblas: the busiest and best known street in Barcelona. This famous 1.3 kilometers long promenade that runs between Plaza Catalunya and the Old Port or Port Vell, separates the neighborhoods of Raval and the Gothic Quarter. In fact its attractions belong to one or the other neighborhood, but we will highlight them here. Flower stores, souvenir stalls, bars, mimes, street artists... And lots of people is what characterizes Las Ramblas. But it also has monuments that you should not miss: the Liceo Theater, the famous Boqueria Market, the beautiful Gaudi's Güell Palace, the Canaletas Fountain, the Wax Museum, the Erotic Museum... A street that goes a long way!
The Port Vell: Although it officially belongs to the Gothic Quarter, the Port Vell has become so popular with tourists that it deserves to be treated separately. The area of the Port Vell or the Old Port is notable for buildings such as Customs or the Port Authority, but undoubtedly its great magnet is the Maremagnum area. This area is reached by crossing the Rambla del Mar that begins where the Columbus Monument is.
The Maremagnum area is full of atmosphere. There is a large shopping mall, 3D cinemas, foodtrucks, DJ's, a children's area... and the Aquarium of Barcelona.
Catalonia Square: The most famous square in Barcelona is undoubtedly Plaza Cataluña. It connects the old part of the city (Ciutat Vella) and the area that was created after the demolition of the walls, the Eixample. From this square you can access the most important streets of the city and is surrounded by stores. Also on its first floor is the main tourist office of Barcelona. You will pass by it countless times!
El Ensanche or L'Eixample: The Eixample district of Barcelona is the most populated district of the city. It is composed of 6 neighborhoods and was created in 1860 thanks to the urbanization plan of Ildefonso Cerdá. Its design is a large grid and its streets are wide, tree-lined and with wide blocks. Its streets are home to Barcelona's most spectacular modernist buildings and the most beautiful houses. Its most famous street is Passeig de Gràcia.
Passeig de Gràcia: Paseo de Gracia is the most famous street in Barcelona and connects Plaza Cataluña with the Barrio de Gracia. This famous street combines the luxury of the most exclusive store windows with the most impressive modernist buildings. All the great architects of the time have left their mark here. Among them are Casa Batlló and Casa Milà-La Pedrera, both by Antonio Gaudí, Casa Amatller by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Casa Llleo i Morera by Lluís Domenech i Montaner. But there are many more beautiful buildings.
Sagrada Familia: Another of the most famous neighborhoods of the Eixample is the Sagrada Familia, thanks to the masterpiece of Antonio Gaudi. The expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia is not only a work of art of architecture, it is much more. In the Sagrada Familia, this author manages to combine a perfect harmony between the content and the container, the structural and ornamental elements are mimicked in one and the symbolism pervades everything. Masterful! Nearby there is another great modernist building by Lluís Domèneh i Montaner. This is the Hospital de Sant Pau, an impressive hospital complex that is the most important modernist complex in Europe. It really belongs to the district of Horta-Guinardó, but as it is only 900 meters from the Sagrada Familia, we comment it here.
Gracia: The district of Gracia is composed of 5 residential neighborhoods. The best known is the Barrio de Gracia, the area next to Paseo de Gracia. It is as if it were a village within Barcelona, in fact it used to be a village. It is an area with a lot of atmosphere and with very good restaurants where the locals go. At its epicenter is the first work of Antonio Gaudi, the Casa Vicens, you will be amazed with its asian style! In another of its neighborhoods, La Salut, is another of Gaudi's great works, Park Güell.
Sants-Montjuic: The district of Sants-Montjuic is composed of 10 neighborhoods, among which are the New Port area and the famous Sants station, one of the main stations of the city. There are undoubtedly two major tourist attractions: Montjuic Park and Plaza de España.
Highlights:
Montjuic Park: Montjuic Mountain is one of the most beautiful and complete areas of Barcelona. It offers many things to see and do. Take a walk through its many gardens, go up to the castle in the cable car, visit the Olympic Ring, enjoy the Magic Fountain, have fun in the Poble Espanyol, Pabellon Mies Van der Rohe... And of course, visit some of its rich museums such as the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), CAIXAFORUM or the Miró Foundation.
The Plaza de España: The Plaza de España is the largest square in Barcelona and another of its most representative places. Main gateway to Montjuic Park, this square is always lively.
Sant Martí: The coastal part of the district of Sant Martí was created from the Olympic Games of Barcelona 92, the so-called Olympic Village. Its best known neighborhoods are those that are close to the sea, as they have a beautiful promenade and great beaches. Do not miss the Olympic Port with its luxurious yachts and countless terraces and restaurants where you can have a drink and enjoy the sea breeze. One of the icons of the Olympic Port are the two towers: the Mapfre Tower and the Hotel Arts.
Les Corts: The residential district of Les Corts is famous for housing in the neighborhood of Les Corts the Barcelona Football Club Stadium. You can visit the museum and the stadium thanks to the Camp Nou Experience. Nearby are also the Pedralbes Monastery and the L'Illa shopping complex.
Sarrià-Sant Gervasi: In the district of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is one of the great lungs of Barcelona: the Sierra de Collserola. Its highest peak is the Tibidabo and is a fun place to spend the day. In addition to strolling through its many trails, you can enjoy like a child in the Tibidabo Amusement Park. And don't miss its incredible views of the city of Barcelona!
